How to get rid of stress and feel centered in 5 minutes
How to get rid of stress and feel centered in 5 minutesHow to get rid of stress and feel centered in 5 minutesFeeling stressed? Like the type of stress where youve got so much going on your brain ends up racing every night, or you just feel lost and dont know what to do? I used to feel it, too. Overwhelmed with clients, my work, my personal life. I had no time for my relationship. No time to paint (which is my passion). No time to spend with family and friends. I felt like my life was in an endless whirlwind. Then, I learned one of the most amazing techniques for getting rid of stress. Over the past 10 years, through coaching some of the worlds most successful business women and with my deep study of the subconscious mind, I reframed a powerful technique from my berater Dr. Coletta Long, a leading pioneer in the field of regression, to help even more people achieve the freedom from stress and anxiety. Its called the Emotional Reset Method. And its so simple (kind of like the Mel Robbin s 5-second method, which I love). So what is it?The Emotional Reset Method (ERM) is a five-step technique to identify, name, and release that feeling or sensation of stress/anxiety/pain/worry that you dont want in your body anymore (so you can move forward with more lightness, freedom, and purpose). It only takes about five minutes, but if you sit, center, and do it with integrity- it can really help you get back to doing what you do.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreStep 1. Pause. Tune into what you feel. The first step is to pause. To stop, sit still, and breathe deeply into your belly. Before you can discover where youre carrying your emotions, you need to ground yourself in your body. Were often so busy that we spend a lot of our time out of our bodies. Many mindfulness practices start with the breath, which allows you to slow down and bring yourself back into your body. Think a bout a tree when the wind blows, its the root that lets the wind sway through the limbs without knocking it over. It just takes a minute to breathe deeply, connect your mind and body, and root down.Sit down in a comfy seat, place your hands on your thighs, close your eyes, and breathe deeply, starting from your belly (your diaphragm). Slowly count in-and-out for five seconds. This will center and ground you. Youll feel more calm and present.Step 2. Describe it. What do you feel?Next, ask yourself What sensation am I feeling? Let go of any self-judgment. Theres no need to critique or criticize. The key of this step is to be relaxed and honest with yourself so you can feel into the sensations of your body (and emotions). When you release and let yourself feel, different sensations, emotions, and reactions will come up. Is it anxiety? Fear? Just tired? The key here is to just sink in, let yourself feel, and then name that out into the world. For me, what I was feeling was heavy anxiety and fatigue. A desire to do it all. That desire to do a million things and try to fit it all into my chaotic day.Step 3. Locate it. Where do you feel it?The third step is to identify where youre feeling it. Have you ever been incredibly anxious or worried and felt a tightening feeling in your stomach or lungs? That feeling you perceive is emotion making its presence known physically. Locate where that place is in your body.In my case, it was right in the middle of my stomach. So, I brought my attention to that sensation and location.Step 4. Give it a visual. Can you describe it as a color?Whats most easy to describe is a color and use it for visualization. You need to be able to visualize this feeling you defined in Step 3. For many, its easiest to describe it as a color. Just keep that feeling in your mind and say whatever first comes to your head. Is fear a deep blue? Is anxiety a subtle purple? It will be different for everyone and every sensation, but if you pause and feel it ou t you can think of a color that represents this emotion and feeling. In my case, it was blue. That heavy, radiating feeling in my stomach was like a deep, fuzzy blue just sitting there.Step 5. Release it. Time to let it go.Visualize the power of the mind pushing that defined feeling up and out of the body. Once youve named your feeling, located it in your body, and labeled it with description/color, youre ready to let it go- to release it.Take one more deep breath and then really picture pushing that feeling/color out of your body. Do you feel it sneaking up your chest and out of your head like a mist or cloud? Do you feel it pushing out of your feet and fingertips?Everyone will experience this differently. Feel into it and picture it leaving you. Imagine the emotional block inside you dissolving. Fading out and away. After doing that whole process, I felt such a lightness - a weight lifted- I ended up releasing this ball of stress and fatigue that was inside of me.ERM will remind y ou that you have the power within to take charge. To create a plan to take action on what needs to get done and let go of what is bedrngnis as important as you think it may be.So, whenever youre in the office and feel that wave of stress coming over you or if youre dreading a conversation with your partner do the Emotional Reset Method. Your body, your mind, and your heart will all thank you. This article originally appeared on Create and Cultivate. You might also enjoyNew neuroscience reveals 4 rituals that will make you happyStrangers know your social class in the first seven words you say, study finds10 lessons from Benjamin Franklins daily schedule that will double your productivityThe worst mistakes you can make in an interview, according to 12 CEOs10 habits of mentally strong people

Ways the Concert Guest List Can Help Promote an Event
Ways the Concert Guest List Can Help Promote an EventWays the Concert Guest List Can Help Promote an EventAt a show or concert, a guest list is a list of people who are allowed to enter the show for free or without a ticket. People on the guest list usually include the press, anyone working in some capacity for the musicians, and if there is space, the friends and family of the musicians and of the people who work for the formation. ConcertGuest List, All Access, and Backstage Passes Being on the guest list is not always the same thing as having an access all areas pass or a backstage pass. At larger shows, there are usually two guest lists a list of people who are to be allowed free entry into the show and a list of people who should be given a backstage pass. It is up to the musicians and the musicians representatives just who ends up on which list. How to Use the List to Your Advantage The number of people that can be granted guest list places is determined in advance of t he show between the promoter and the band/band reps. Usually, if a show is sold out, the promoter will be very strict about sticking to the guest list quota out of necessity, but often, if ticket sales are slow, the promoter will be willing to add additional spaces on the night of the show. Wondering how you can use concert guest lists to promote your event or music? Incentives for Volunteers and Street Teams Some music promoters, venues, or concert halls choose to spread the yep on upcoming shows through volunteers or street teams (a street team helps to promote and create buzz around shows and concerts). Often, spots on guest lists are offered as incentives for the work put in by these volunteer promoters. Contests Prizes for Online Influencers An influencer is a regular person with a large following or audience (think bloggers, writers, artists, and social media stars). Providing these influencers with guest list passes as contest prizes are beneficial to both you and the influencer as contests over social media can create a lot more buzz from its shareability and viral nature. The influencer can continue to grow their audience through fun contests while you are able to get the word out on your event to large audiences. A Way to Get On-Air Plugs Giving local radio stations a large number of tickets and guest passes can ensure hours of promotion and on-air plugs leading up to your event. A Way to Get More Reviews Providing individual writers, journalists, bloggers, and industry experts with their very own guest and press pass is one sure fire way to get that person to attend your event and perhaps write a good review. A Way to Fill Seats There is nothing worse for your career than having empty seats and space available at a music event. Being strategic about who and how many people you put on the guest list can help elevate the concert experience for both the audience and the band.

College Student Resume Example With Summary StatementCollege Student Resume Example With Summary StatementWhen a college student has to prepare aresume, it can be difficult because they may not have a lot of work experience. The good news is that your academic, extracurricular, and other experiences can still show an employer that you have the qualifications and know-how to do the job - if you present this information correctly on your resume. What to Include in Your Resume Begin with a resume summary statement. Aresume summary statement(also known as a resume summary or summary of qualifications) is a list or a few sentences at the top of a resume that highlights your qualifications for a position. It is a great way to quickly show an employer why you are a strong candidate for a position. Resume summary statements can be useful at any career level, including as a college student. The summary statement should be located below your name and contact information. In a few sentence s (or bullet points), state some of your skills and accomplishments that make you an ideal fit for the job. Try to includekeywordsfrom the job listing. Mention a strong GPA. Along with your school and degree information, include any achievements, such as a highGPA(3.5 or above) and any academic awards (Deans List, scholarships, etc.). Emphasize your teamwork and leadership skills. Employers are always interested in job candidates who have demonstrated personal aktion in assuming leadership roles and who have proven themselves to be productive team members. Be sure to describe all leadership positions you have held within universittsgelnde organizations or in academic team projects. Emphasize All Related Experience. You can put all these experiences in a section titled Related Experience, or divide them into different sections. Tips for Writing an Effe ctive Resume for a College Student Highlight Your Education. If you have completed any projects or taken courses related to the job you are applying for, you can include these as well. Finesse your Experience Section. Even if you dont have actual work experience, you should still include an Experience section in your resume. In this section, you can describe your college program, internships, or volunteer work you have performed. Instead of using the header Professional Experience for this section, use a mora general title such as Research and Analytical Experience, Related Experience, or Experience Highlights. Look at Other Resume Examples. Look at someresume examplesortemplatesto guide your writing. This Simple Exercise Will Make Sure You Spend Time on What Makes You Happy
This Simple Exercise Will Make Sure You Spend Time on What Makes You HappyThis Simple Exercise Will Make Sure You Spend Time on What Makes You HappyWake up. Go to work. Stay a little late. Come home. Make dinner. Go to bed. Do it all over again. Its so easy to get caught up in the daily grind. Before you know it, a week has passed, the month ends, the year is over, and you havent done a thing that mattered to you. Somehow, you managed to be busy and bored all at the same time. So, how do you break the cycle? Is there a way to actually spend time on what makes you happy- to separate the urgent from the important? Marika Reuling, chief of staff at Harvard University, might have a simple three-step solution. Step 1 Start a Life AuditAt the 2015 Greater Boston Women in Leadership Symposium, Reuling spoke about completing a life audit once or twice a year to help her reevaluate how she spends and prioritizes her time. To get started, youll need a bunch of sticky notes, a pen, a leer wall or floor, and privacy. You should probably turn your phone off, too.A life audit, as serious as it sounds, is simply the process of writing down every tangible goal or vague ambition, both professional and personal, on a Post-it note and sticking it on a blank wall. Ximena Vengoechea, after completing her own life audit, suggests shooting for at least 100 wishes for yourself. Step 2 Define Your VisionFrom there, try to place each of your goals into a bucket travel, health, family, career, and mora. Whatever theme comes up can have its own bucket. Move the sticky notes around until theyre all under the right theme, and consider whether these themes capture what you want your career and life trajectory to be. Continue adding more sticky notes, if necessary. What you have in front of you now are guidelines for how to spend your time in a way thats rewarding for you. For Reuling, this step helped her realize she needed something in her professional life that allowed for more artistry. N ow, not only does she help manage resources and staff at Harvard, she co-runs a vineyard with her husband in Sonoma Valley, California.Step 3 Design Your DayNow that you have your guidelines, plot your day around these goals. Mark each note with an S for short term, an L for long term, or an E for every day. From there, you can decide how to work toward your short and long term goals. This is where you want to get specific. Set weekly or monthly goals and be exact about the time you hope to spend.Reuling suggests using the Timely app (or something similar) to help you plan and keep track of how youre spending your time. If youre having trouble figuring out where you can actually fit more into your day, consider doing a time audit to see where youre spending all your time and whether it makes sense or not. Working toward a hundred goals big and small may sound like a daunting task- and it is, but no one ever said you had to do it alone. As Reuling concludes, Think about your team, bo th at work and at home. No one ever found success on their own, so dont forget to lean on others as you try to break the cycle and refocus your goals. Learning from the Younger Set Productivity Lessons from Generation Y
Learning from the Younger Set Productivity Lessons from Generation Y Though the work style of Gen Y workers is frequently denigrated by veterans of the business world, they also possess a knowledge base completely foreign to many upper managers and executives and shouldnt be ignored for their tech savviness and the productivity benefits that come from this know-how. In fact, there are a number of unconventional productivity lessons that can be learned by the so-called Millennials with their expertise in social media, the Internet, and even new-styled management practices. 1. With technology moving at a breakneck pace and new tools for performing voreingestellt tasks appearing on a nearly daily basis, Millennials are well-understood to be consummate early adopters, willing and able to explore the wealth of new technology applications being regularly placed at their fingertips. Embracing experimenta tion, research and using new productivity tools promotes innovation when approaching your workflow. Through honing your skills of these productivity tools, you can create new methods for making your daily routine mora effective.2. The apparent self-centeredness of many Gen Y workers is often a target for criticism and is regularly cast in a negative light. Performance is the primary drive behind the Millennial work ethic and a focus on defined roles and responsibilities becomes the means to being most productive. Millennials may not aspire to be the office go-to person forsaking this role in favor of being a top performer. This focus on personal productivity can be useful when managing your workload. By better understanding how taking on more work affects your own satisfaction and potential for career advancement, you can work to avoid forfeiting your happiness in the name of managing your priorities.3. Generation Y workers are well-versed in the ideals of transforming failures into opportunities for developing new techniques. As such, the younger set typically isnt as afraid to fail as older workers. Learning by doing is the new method of choice even at the loss of a degree of efficiency. Learning skills is paramount to immediately accomplishing a task. Learning to view failures in this way can help you to succeed in your endeavors by not succumbing to the fear and discourage that may otherwise overtake any future attempts.4. Members of the Millennial generation have had almost no occasion to find stability in their adult lives given the state of the economy, the global recession, and other economic and social woes. So becoming proficient in a variety of skills in order to remain competitive in a dynamic job market has become a priority. From this mindset comes a set of values that embraces change as a way of life and pushes for the need to continually look for opportunities to change the way you operate to better suit the current environment, which may morph into something completely different in a matter of months or a few years.5. Regular feedback and mentorship is vital to the functioning of Gen Y workers. While many older workers may view this as somewhat lazy or even needy, having positive mentors helps younger workers remain engaged by keeping their work in context, allowing them to collaborate with others, and giving them an outlet for communicating their expectations. Developing a strong relationship with mentors or other superiors can breed a sense of loyalty to your boss and a better appreciation of how your work affects your company. This in effect incentivizes you to develop more effective work habits and attitudes that help you become more efficient at your work. While Millennials have a lot to learn from the working world, they already offer a means by which to view the business world of the future and they introduce ways to embrace the coming change and become more productive as the technological and workplace landscapes experience change at an ever-quickening pace.

Talent alone is not enough
Talent alone is not enoughTalent alone is not enoughCreativity defines the human species - it underpins our favorite technology, music, speciess and every other tool or product we use every day.The human mind is naturally creative, constantly looking to make associations and connections between things and ideas.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreIt wants to explore, to discover new aspects of the world, and to invent. Some people are genetically constructed to have a knack for certain things. But when you start to believe that talent is the most essential piece to the puzzle of success, youve built up a wall all on your own that will only lead to failure in life. You can be good and even great at something without being naturally talented.Adopt what Carol Dweck calls a growth mindset. Look for opportunities to test yourself and keep pushing yourself to see how far you can go.When two individuals are equally talented, only effort will make the difference. There is an old saying that with your hands in your pockets you cannot climb the ladder of successTalent can do nothing without perseveranceJohn Wooden once said, Judge yourself not by what you have achieved but by what you should have achieved with the talent at your disposal. Those who really want to make the most of their talent also have a desire to improve and a work ethic that combine to make them even better.Calvin Coolidge argues that Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.Stop labeling ability astalentIf someone is good at something, theyre skilled.Deliberate practice got them that far. Most people view creativity as a talent. But that spark of genius can be nurtured and triggered using a variety of techniques.InTalent is Overrated, Colvin argues that deliberate, methodical, and sustained practice is the way to achieve true mastery.Deliberate practice is hard. It hurts. But it works. mora of it equals better performance. Tons of it equals great performance. Colvin writes. The biggest difference between you and Picasso or Einstein, or the most creative minds of our time is that they embraced the long road to mastery. They spent more time in front of a canvas, or guitar, or computer, working away at applying their minds and souls to the one thing they wanted to do.Most of what we think of as natural talent is really just the result of having started practice early. In The Role of Deliberate Practice in the Acquisition of Expert Performance from the journalPsychological Review, authors K. Anders Ericsson, Ralf T. Krampe, and Clemens Tesch-Romer study t he learning curves of grandmaster chess players. The authors explain that no single chess player had attained the level of an international chess master without at least 10 years of intense preparation with the game.According to their research, it took master chess players - older than the age of 11 - an average of 11.7 years to reach such a high status. Thats 12 years of intense chess play every single day.Creativity is a skill that can be learned just like any other. When you make everything a skill instead of a talent, the entire world opens up. With the right mindset, youre ready for the other half of the battle.Lose yourself to findyourselfAs children, were much less self-critical of our creativity.Kids will happily experiment with ideas, pictures, drawings, and doodles without any fear that its not 100% perfect.Worrying yourself to death or painstakingly creating a concept before abandoning it - even for the smallest fault - can be a paralyzing way to work.Suni Brown, the au thor ofThe Doodle Revolution, notes that some of the greatest thinkersfrom Henry Ford to Steve Jobsused doodling to jump-start creativity. Doodling can enhance recall and activate unique neurological pathways, leading to new insights and cognitive breakthroughs.By throwing yourself into every idea, you can work through and find solutions that you wouldnt necessarily have thought of had you spent days agonizing over a concept. If you can accept some failures and dont always strive for perfection, you really increase your chances of producing something amazing and will find yourself constantly learning new things.Being prolific means going in at the deep end.If you refuse to get started before youve brainstormed your brainstorms, thinking through an idea from every possible angle, you can end up with nothing at all.Creating is the result of thinking like walking.Left foot, problem. Right foot, solution. Repeat until you arrive.Give yourself time in your life to wonder what is possible and to make even the slightest moves in that direction.Enjoy thejourneyThe only way you can find out if an idea will work is to actually try it out.You can save a lot of time by seeing an idea through early if only on a provisional basis, to see whether it holds up to your own or a clients brief. But the greatest impediment to creativity is impatience. The almost inevitable desire to hurry up the process, express something, and make a splash can hurt your creative work.Want to be more creative? Pick a problem you care about and get to work.Or focus on the one thing that makes you come alive and get started exploring it. If you dont care about anything, your problem isnt creativity, its apathy. To master any skill, you must love the subject and feel a profound connection to it. Your interest must transcend the field itself and border on the religious.Assume nothing. Be careful what you put on the canvas of your mind today - it matters. - InnerspaceCharles Darwin was reading Thomas Malthuss Essay on Population for amusement when he was able to crystallize his theory of natural selection.Dr. Rex Jung from the University of New Mexico has also observed that when people are engaged in the creative process, there is a distinct change in the frontal lobes. When there is less activity in the frontal lobes, it is more likely that you can come up with an original idea.Dr. Jung describes the phenomenon as transient hypofrontality.Great discoveries often evolve as slow hunches, maturing and connecting to other ideas over time. And remember, being completely terrible at something is the first step to being pretty darn good at it.At first glance, talent seems to be the biggest indicator of success in any field. But talent isnt everything.Dont wait your whole life for your talents to find you. Designing the Perfect Swing
Designing the Perfect Swing Designing the Perfect Swing meerbusen is a game where people will take any edge they can get. Just ask the golfers competing for a certain green jacket in Augusta, GA, recently. But even if its just a friendly foursome, that doesnt mean you dont want to come in firstin fact, the sporting goods industry counts on it. Better yardage, less slice, anything to turn bogeys into birdies. Golf club designer Tom Wishon of Tom Wishon Golf, Durango, CO, says the mechanical engineering edge is found in club fit. Where many golfers stand to get better is by having their clubs designed around their game, he says. For the pro, it wont make much of a difference, but for anyone with a handicap of 8 or worsethey can make great improvements. Golf club designer Tom Wishon at work. Image Tom Wishon Golf Technology Wishon, co-author of the bestselling book The Search for the Perfect Golf Club, says a major problem in clubs is that theyre sold to standard specs so they can be sh ipped fully assembled to retailers. Youre selling it to golfers so different in ability and swing that its just luck if it matches up well, he says. Wishon believes an engineer who can focus in on what an individual golfer needs can be an important asset. First you look at the size, strength, and athletic ability of the golfer, he says. Think about the physics, the engineering that can be put into that club head and shaft. The head speed has to do with whether they can hold onto the wrist cock angle related to the inertiato golfer spine angleto rotationand what changes that in their golf swing. If you unhinge the wrist cock angle, rotation increases dramatically, putting mora stress on the golfer so they cant swing as well. We have this idea that the longer the club, the better the shot, but 70% of golfers have length that actually prevents them from playing to the best of their ability. Detail of one of Wishons designs. Image Tom Wishon Golf Technology Key fitting specs to look at include assessing the club length, loft angle on the club head face, the lie angle between the shaft and sole of the club, total weight of the golf club, and the swing-weight balance ratio of the weight distribution in head versus the rest of the club. The whole business of club fitting is being a true diagnostician, says Wishon. Like a doctor seeing a patient, the golfer comes with the symptoms Does he slice it? How much? High? Low? A club fitter needs to watch you take shots and do measurements on you and analyze various swing motions to truly know if they can help. You can take an average golfers slice from 30 yards to 10 yards. Instead of losing balls, theyre in play. Wishon, whos been designing for 40 years, was a teaching pro who received his engineering knowledge through mentors, such as Art Mittendorf, an electrical engineer. But he doesnt believe you need to be an elite golfer to be a top club fitter. It helps if youre good at the game but an advanced degree in mechanical e ngineering can give you strong knowledge that can come into play, he says. You start to see how many details go into an effective swing through the club. So many people have a game inside of them that they dont even know is there. Its a lot of fun to watch their game improve just by coming up with a better fit.
